Happy Birthday, March Babies

Tom here. Here's an idea to try to get some folks to participate on the blog and most importantly to get some pictures posted. Here are the folks with birthdays in March.

5 Suzy March *
7 Damien Ponton
8 George Ladouceur
6 Rita Bigelow
12 Wilfred Daoust
13 Bernard Daoust Jr.
20 Jon Keville Jr.
22 Jessica Bigelow
23 Frank DiMartino *
30 Judith Darling
30 Melissa Ponton

(Key: * = picture has appeared this month)

Let's see a picture of each person at least once during the month. This would be a nice way to celebrate family, both living and passed on. I am probably missing some birthdays, so feel free to post any I missed.

BTW, if anyone objects to having their name or birthday posted here, please let me know. I will remove it.

Maybe we will do this in April, then May, then June...

Visit to Richmond

Tom here. We visited Brian & Ashley last weekend in Richmond, VA. The place is dripping with cool history from both the Civil War (we call it the War of Northern Aggression) and the American Revolution. Brian & Ashley have a cute place with a little dog named Eli, who takes a long time to trust new people in his house.

Very relaxing weekend, with a visit to a bookstore, gift shops, good meals together, and a driving tour all over Richmond. Great fun.

Edward at war

Tom here. I remember my dad telling me that this picture was taken in Germany (Edward on the right). Paul thinks my dad's buddy in the picture is Nick. My dad would be about 22 in this picture.

Does anyone have pictures of their mom or dad from these years? Wedding pictures? I'd enjoy seeing them.

She wrote:

Bill and I are headed to Vegas.

Hope we win big.

Something didn't click with her message. We will try again. In the meantime, I wanted to share her message.

Info on Rationing

Tom here. If you are interested in an important part of American history that our parents lived through, you can find some interesting stuff about rationing here.

Now that I am a little older and wiser, I wish I had learned more directly from my dad about what his generation went through. We owe their generation a lot for what we enjoy today.

Enjoy.

A 1942 Newspaper Article about the Daoust Family

Paul here ...

This article describes the rationing that was endured by everyone during WW II.

Apparently in 1942 since Uncle Ronnie was 2 years old.

Click on the picture to see the article big enough to read it. They talk of rationing 3 pairs of shoes a person per year. Hard to imagine.

Tim Daoust's Masters Concert

Paul here ...

Pictured here are Paul Sr., Jackie, Paul Jr., Tim, Josie and Judith.

Our son Tim is currently studying at UNC Greensboro for a Masters in Music Composition. He is due to graduate this May and Saturday night Feb. 2nd about 75 people were treated to an evening of Tim's compositions presented by the student musicians. Some of the music was composed for films that were also presented.

It was a rare evening in that all four of our children were able to make it to the event as well as the four grand children. Several in-laws parents made the trip and brother, Tom, took the picture.

My Dad

Hi Cousins,
Went to visit my Dad today. He is still doing good where he is living. Nothing new with my brothers family, but I will keep everyone posted.
Sue, I will email you to let you know the address and directions of where my Dad lives. If any of the cousins are interested just let me know.

Uncle Al and Aunt Julia

Paul here ...

This is a picture taken during a visit to Uncle Al and Aunt Julia when they were living in Coxsakie, in March 2006.
I was in the Albany area working and had an extra day to stay. Suzy and Gary had just bought a lot on Sleepy Hollow Lake near Coxsackie and wanted to show me the lake and the lot. After the lake tour Suzy and I went over to where Uncle Al and Aunt Julia were living at the time for a visit and took this picture.
View a video of that visit, with a surprise ending. Click here ...
