Visit to Richmond

Tom here. We visited Brian & Ashley last weekend in Richmond, VA. The place is dripping with cool history from both the Civil War (we call it the War of Northern Aggression) and the American Revolution. Brian & Ashley have a cute place with a little dog named Eli, who takes a long time to trust new people in his house.

Very relaxing weekend, with a visit to a bookstore, gift shops, good meals together, and a driving tour all over Richmond. Great fun.

Hi Tom,
Nice picture of the 4 of you. Richmond is one of the places that my husband & I would like to visit because of the Civil War. Did you know that we are Civil War Reenactors. I portray Mary Todd Lincoln, and Leo portray's Ward Hill Lamon at our events. So we definitely will need to go to Richmond someday.
Keep in touch.

Judee & Leo,
We'd love to meet you in Richmond some time. Linda is a history major, and I have developed an interest in the wars that built the US. There is no other city in the US so full of Civil War history. We would make the effort to go to Richmond for a special event (re-enactment, Independence Day celebration, special commemoration). Might be fun.

Think about July 4th weekend this year (the 4th is on a Friday). There are probably all kinds of things planned for that weekend in Richmond.

Paul, wanna do this? Sue? Cheryl? Anyone? Leave your guns home. This'll be a friendly gathering of North and South.

Now, Judee, you must have pictures of you and Leo in your re-enactor clothes. How about sharing them?

hey- Suzy here. Sounds like fun. I'd be in if I can swing it with work. Gary is a big history buff too.

We won't be able to go to Richmond for the 4th of July because we will be doing a Civil war event in Gettysburg then. It will be 145 anniversary of the battles at Gettysburg. Maybe another time.
Hey, Sue
Leo & I are doing a Living history event on September 13th at the Albany rural cementary, in case Gary and you would like to see that. I will send you more details if interested.

Judee,
Gettysburg sounds like fun too. We've been to Gettysburg a few times. I will talk with Linda about Gettysburg in July. We'd love to see you there.

Naturally, it would be easy for Cheryl & Flip. Let's work this out by email, and get a few more folks involved.

OK- I have to know who is Ward Hill Lamon? Judee- I will put Sept. 13 on the calendar. Maybe July can work as well although I am not sure with an event like that if we can get a hotel there. I'll check it out.

HI Sue,
Ward Hill Lamon was a lawyer friend of Lincoln's and one of his body guards.
We don't stay in Gettysburg because the hotels are too expensive, we usually stay in Hanover which is about 10 miles away from Gettysburg. In fact we have a reservation in the super 8 in Hanover.
